UPDATE: MTO announced at 7:03 a.m. on Saturday, April 2 that Highway 141 has reopened in both directions.
SEGUIN TWP. – Highway 141 East of Rosseau is closed in both directions due to a road near Muskoka Woods Youth Resort.
The closure is between Highway 632 in Rosseau and Debank Road.
According to people at scene two cars plunged into the crevasse thinking they were driving through water. The cars have been removed.
Staff at the camp are busy clearing their roads after mud swept across the grounds, pieces of the highway strewn several yards away from the road onto the resort lawn. Resort staff say the rush of water followed a natural ditch, missing buildings on site, with some flooding in one building.
The detour is along Highway 632 to Bracebridge.
MTO staff are currently the scene. Water appears to have rushed down a resort road that passes under the highway, overwhelming the tunnel and pushing the highway south into the resort grounds.
This is the same stretch of Highway 141 where the bridge was closed only a few kilometres west of the flooded area last summer until into the fall.
Water has also been reported across Star Lake and Turtle Lake Roads.
In Pointe au Baril, water has been reported across Highway 69 at the Shell Station. As of 8:45 this morning West Parry Sound OPP closed the Highway due to flooding in the area.
More information will be reported as it becomes available.
